Chay Telfer CEng MIMechE
A thorough Mechanical Engineer with a great depth of technical knowledge, a methodical nature, concise communication skills and drive that is utilised to reach a solution to any technical challenge.
Raised on a sheep and cattle farm in southern Scotland, heavy vehicles and equipment have always been part of my life. Although “agricultural” is a term I hear often from others describing a system that could be seen as “rough” - I prefer “functional”! Don’t be fooled, precision can be applied where it is needed.
I earned a Masters of Engineering from the University of Strathclyde in 2012 and became a Chartered Engineer with the Institute of Mechanical Engineers in 2017. Since then, I have had the fortune of working with and learning from fantastic people in permanent engineering positions at SMD, Caley Ocean Systems, Aggreko, JFD and SMP.
I have the privilege to to design and work with many types of heavy machinery, including,
Saturation dive systems
Launch and recovery systems - boats, submarine rescue vehicles, workover tooling and ROVs
Pipe and cable lay systems
Power generation and associated cooling systems
Underwater vehicles - manned submersibles and ROVs
In general, if it has lots of steel in it, moves and gets wet then I’ve likely touched it at one point in my career.
So if your system is operating in the highest village in Scotland, outer space or at >1500m seawater depth, I can help.
